Fellowship application form

The Palladio Foundation and the International Specialised Skills Institute (ISS Institute) are offering one (1) international applied research Fellowships in the amount of $8,500 each.

Applications open 1 January – 25 March 2022.


The 2022 Palladio Foundation International Fellowship provides an opportunity for individuals aged between 18 years and 45 years to acquire higher-level skills and drive leading practice and innovation in Australia. It is intended that the Fellowship will demonstrate potential benefits for, and application in, Australia.

Applications should focus on the following areas:

  • Conservation
  • Heritage trades
  • Artisan skills

Ideally, Fellows would undertake an immersion activity in a centre of excellence that is aligned to one of the above areas. Preference will be given to candidates who will be traveling to Italy as part of their Fellowship. The ISS Institute will undertake to assist in making relevant Italian connections where necessary and/or possible.

However, if you have an innovative Fellowship idea that sits outside these areas, or if you intend to travel to other destinations, these will also be considered.

About this Fellowship

The ISS Institute is seeking candidates for this Fellowship who are interested in exploring new and leading practice, innovation and leadership opportunities in Skill Enhancement areas within the conservation, heritage trades and artisan skills sectors. However, if you have an innovative Fellowship in an alternative field this will also be considered.

The Palladio Foundation

The Palladio Foundation has a rich history of skills enhancement within Australia. The Foundation was established in 1990 essentially to answer a critical need in Australia, namely how can artisans, designers, and like occupations who are fully qualified and skilled, further enhance their skills. Accordingly, the Palladio Foundation has a special interest in supporting the education of talented artisans and those working on heritage and conservation initiatives, especially programs which offer practical experience.

International Specialised Skills Institute (ISS Institute)

The ISS Institute was founded 29 years ago, by a small group of innovative leaders who had a vision of building a community of industry specialists who would lead the up skilling of the Australian workforce. Investing in the development of talented, passionate and innovative Australians to travel abroad to develop new skills and knowledge and return to Australia to disseminate their learnings has, and continues to create a ‘better skilled Australia.’ The Institute has funded and supported over 500 Fellows, and all have become agents of change and drivers of innovation
within their professional communities. Our Fellows represent a broad cross-section of industries and our Fellowship program creates impact in many ways including economic benefits, skills preservation, the personal and professional advancement of our Fellows, new thinking, practice and increased innovation in the workforce.
