Synopsis

This research highlights the gap in accessible training and support for Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) workers in Victoria. Existing literature primarily focuses on children in care, neglecting the challenges faced by workers. Common global issues include extreme behaviours from residents and high turnover rates. Government policies, such as those in New Zealand and Austria, influence worker training and qualifications. The complexity of OOHC clients has also increased, driven by factors like changes in reporting systems, social media influence, and long wait times for mental health services. The research emphasises the need for curriculum and policy changes to better support OOHC workers.
