Synopsis

Depression is common among older people who receive aged care services at home. However, the Australian aged care sector has yet to develop suitable approaches to address this growing problem. This Innovation in Aged Care Fellowship aimed to address this gap, through a series of engagements with international experts in aged mental health to identify innovation solutions and leading international practice.

Recommendations were made for the Australian aged care sector to play a larger role in identifying signs of depression among care recipients and facilitating access to effective treatments, supported through routine training in mental health for the Australian aged care workforce.
