Synopsis
The Sustainability Fellowship has focused on energy storage, the manufacturing supply chain, and education programs in Australia and internationally. Energy storage is vital for Australia's commitment to the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit global temperature rise. Australia has significant reserves of critical minerals, essential for battery manufacturing, but lacks secondary manufacturing capabilities, relying on imports. The fellowship highlighted workforce development needs, including specialised chemical engineers, digital skills, and high-purity mineral processing. Regional insights noted New South Wales' plans for significant battery production. The fellowship also emphasised education and training, micro-credentials, and aligning workforce supply with industry demands to support the green economy transition.
